  • So stick with it man!!! cause we never really stop learning. I stay in Scotland In the U.K and though we have a fair few recording studio's there are not that many mastering houses at all, mostly in London. Hi OMU, can I just say that good on you for applying yourself and teaching yourself in a place where the specialist learning tools are not present. this is not possible here and i just wanted to know, but only assuming you use it, what do you, MEs, think about it. this needs training and a real master to learn from.

i read a lot and apply as much as i can in order to achieve the best results.Īnd here comes a product like HarBal which actualy tells me how my track looks like (in the frequency domain) and if something is not right, i can actualy see the problem, cause nobody teached me how to identify the problems only by hearing. nobody could say ever to me how to eq or do a multiband or limit a track. nobody showed me anything and had to discover by myself everything i know. and this is the actual level from where i speak. i'm a composer and i had to learn so many things about engineering just because we don't have a tradition in engineering like your countries have in order to have trained engineers to do this job. i had to learn a lot by myself just to make my music sound good. You see, in Romania there are no audio engineering schools. it provides some eq curves for comparition but that's all, no automatic matching or anything else.Īnd the possibility for operating on the spectrum seems very interesting to me. Philosophically - great music isn't created with a preset - I don't think great masters are either.īut HarBal is not a preset machine.

To me applying a cookie cutter spectrum "rebalancer" to material is the absolute last thing I would ever want to do to it. To me mastering is about developing skills that allow you to hear what a track needs to sound its best and knowing what processes to apply to it to get it there. Since the demo is limited to 8bit it's really impossible for me to draw any conclusion about it - except to say that I always found Free Filter pretty useless for mastering also.
